The students will:
A. Election- A Vocation
1.
The students will understand the nature of election as unmerited and
gratuitous- a gift of God.
2.
The students will be able to differentiate between the election of
individuals (Jacob and Joseph) and of a people ( the nation of Israel).
3.
The students will understand that election leads to baptism.
4.
The students will understand that baptism is a threefold call to be
prophets, priests and kings.
B. Abraham and
Sarah
1.
The student will realize that just as Abraham's life was a journey of
faith so is their life a journey of faith.
2.
The student will be able to describe the call of Abraham and his people.
3.
The student will be able to describe the covenant God made with Abraham.
C. The Stories of Jacob and Joseph
1.
The student will see the power of the spoken word, as in Esau's blessing,
that prefigures the words of consecration.
2.
The student should understand the potential for healing in a broken
relationship.
3.
The students will be able to describe the call of Jacob and the call of
Joseph.

The students will:
A. Relationship With Others
1.
The student will know what a covenant is and what the requirements of a
covenant are. The student should be able to apply this knowledge to today's
society and to the societies of the past.
2.
The students will know that they have a covenant with God into which they
enter of their own free will.
3.
The student will know that the peoples of the Old Testament faced many of
the same challenges that we do.
4.
The student will be familiar with some of the main elements of the stories
of the Old Testament: jealousy, betrayal and competition. How did the
character respond? . How does a Christian respond?
5. The student will
appreciate the value
of an intimate
relationship.
B.
Moses
1. The
student will be able to compare the Sinai Covenant to God's original
covenant with Abraham.
2. The
student will be able to give examples of people called by God who have
weaknesses.
3. The
student will be able to retell the story of Moses.
4. The
student will be able to relate the desert experience of the Israelites to
other experiences of doubt and separation from God.
5. The
student will develop a deeper understanding of friendship.
C.
The Law
I.
The student will memorize the Ten Commandments and apply them to their own
lives.
2.
The student will explain why the Hebrews needed "the law" in their situation
and why we need it in our situation.
3.
The student will evaluate the consequences of breaking covenants - now and
then.
4.
The students will have a basic understanding of human sexual functions.
5.
The students will understand the meaning of chastity.
6. The student will
appreciate that with
God there is always
the option of
reconciliation and
renewal.
D.
Exodus and Passover
I. The
student will understand that the Exodus was God's liberation of the Hebrew
people from slavery and it foreshadows Christ's liberation of our sin.
2. The
student will articulate an understanding that the Passover foreshadows the
Eucharist.
3. The
student will know that the Passover meal celebrates God's saving acts
throughout history. (Salvation History)
4. The
students will demonstrate a comprehension of the liberation that comes
through self-control and that slavery to sexuality results when we are not
open to God's grace.
5. The
students will have a deeper understanding of God's plan for us as sexual
beings.
